HALIFAX Vandals' second XV
will join the Yorkshire Four
Merit League for the
forthcoming season.
Formally known as the
Development Team, Vandals
are keen to acknowledge the
strength and depth of their
squad.
Chris Davis, Vandals Head
Coach, said "Having seen
these guys in action as a
spectator it's clear to me
there is some real talent
that is worthy of being
called more than a
Development team".
Newly appointed Rugby
Chairman, Tony Friend, who
captained the club to Silver
Trophy victory in 1992 has
also been full of praise for
the players."The seconds
have come a long way over
the last two seasons," he
said. " We have welcomed a
number of new faces who have
gone from a scratch side to
one that has been too good
for most of the opposition
we were able to find them.
"Being part of a competitive
league simply shows that
we're equally committed to
all our teams and that's no
less than they deserve".
Pre-season training starts
on Monday where Davis will
be casting a keen eye over
the club's entire squad,
with the help of newly
recruited Chris O'Connor,
younger brother of Nick who
has seen success at Brods
with promotion to Yorkshire
One. Davis is no stranger to
the coaching role having
taken Vandals into Yorkshire
Four during his last stint
as club coach. "The priority
for the coaching team over
the next few seasons is to
really focus on player
development," added Davis.
"We want to make our players
better equipped to compete
at a higher level and they
have to understand how and
be given the chance to
achieve this. "That can only
be good for the club in
terms of success but equally
important it can prepare our
players to make the step up
to the higher level of rugby
that they hopefully aspire
to."
